The power of the natural world to reveal our very own nature. 

The earth bears a scarred recess, a poignant reminder of where a house once stood. And a lush hollow, a testament to where an animal rested under the night’s blanket. Shul refers to these imprints left behind in the wake of experiences and encounters that inevitably end and fade. 

This body of work chronicles the artist’s quest for an inner stability in the midst of forces that perpetually disrupt, destabilise and threaten a carefully wrought equilibrium. This dynamic then results in an ever changing and shifting inner landscape, where impermanence is the only constant and every state only really knowable through exploring the marks left behind. This topography is like an excavation of the physical and conceptual spaces the soul has travelled. Each landscape is an exploration of emotions, impressions and experience of the world outside.

The Shul collection represents a transformative shift from mere introspection to a conscious connection with the vast complexities of the physical world. This movement from the safe confines of my own mind to the unpredictable spaces, chaos, and encounters of the external physical reality became the catalyst for inner growth, akin to mountains in perpetual motion, finding a precarious balance even while everything constantly shifts.
